In DepthSharpa Completes Over 4.5 Billion Yuan Financing, Post-Money Valuation 22 Billion Yuan — Alibaba, Meituan, Tencent, JD Rarely Bet Together

On August 29, AI robotics company Sharpa announced completing financing of over 4.5 billion RMB, reaching a post-money valuation of 22 billion RMB. Investors include industrial capital such as Alibaba, Meituan, Tencent, JD, and Transsion, as well as institutions like Sequoia China, Qiming Venture Partners, Meituan Longzhu, and Green Pine Capital. Four major internet giants appearing simultaneously on an investment list is a first in China's embodied intelligence sector. The company claims this sets a record for the largest single-round financing in the track. This is Sharpa's first public disclosure of financing since its founding in late 2024. Founded by the Hesai Technology founding team for their second venture, it focuses on dual tracks: Wave dexterous hands and CraftNet foundation models. 80% of the 200-person team is focused on research and AI. On the same day, its dual-arm robot started serving ice cream at a DQ store on Wujiang Road, Shanghai—picking cups, dispensing ingredients, stirring, and delivering upside-down. The 55-step process ran fully unmanned, taking about 6 minutes. It operates daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, year-round. Reservation slots for the coming weeks are already full. General-purpose robots are transitioning from tech demos to real commercial scenarios. Impact on Valuations: The valuation anchor for embodied intelligence bodies and dexterous hand sectors has been raised by an order of magnitude. Funding pricing for unlisted peers like Unitree and Agibot will directly benchmark against this. Upstream tactile sensors and dexterous hand component supply chains benefit simultaneously.

In DepthHumanoid Robots Get National Standards — MIIT's First Standard System Framework Enters Public Consultation

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the draft for comments of the "National Guidelines for Building the Humanoid Robot Industry Standard System (2026 Edition)," open for public consultation from August 25 to September 23. This is China's first systematic framework for humanoid robot standards, covering the entire chain including complete machines, components, data, and safety—not patching specific technical indicators, but establishing metrology for the entire industry from top-level design. Why It Matters: Policy promotion is completing a key leap from the first half (giving money and policies) to the second half (setting standards, opening scenarios, competing for rules). Standards imply procurement access and subsidy criteria. The window for head manufacturers to participate in standard-setting is a positioning window. During the same period, at the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games, robot 400m times shortened from last year's 1:28.03 to 38.15 for the large group, and 1500m times from 6:34 to 2:21. Multiple events saw records broken during preliminaries, and this edition requires fully autonomous completion—the pace of industrialization is racing against rule-making. Impact on Valuations: Chain-leading enterprises included in the standard-drafting list gain entry-barrier dividends. Small-to-medium body factories unable to pass standard certification will be cleared out. Compliance investments for already-funded large targets like UBTECH and XPeng Robotics will become valuation factors.

3. Physical AI & Autonomous Driving

In DepthYaoxing Power Completes 240 Million Yuan Angel Round — Dongfeng Asset Management, CICC Porsche Fund, Horizon Robotics Join

Yaoxing Power, a controlled subsidiary of Minieye, announced on August 29 the completion of a 240 million yuan angel round. Investors include industrial capital and institutions such as Dongfeng Asset Management, CICC Porsche Fund, Yuanjing Capital, Xinjing Fuying, Juhe Capital, Foshan Linghang, and Horizon Robotics. Funds will be used for physical AI R&D, unmanned logistics vehicle development and operation, and team expansion. After closing, Minieye holds 60.34%. Yaoxing Power develops independently as a controlled subsidiary, using unmanned delivery as its strategic entry point. This is its first introduction of external capital as an independent corporate entity. Why It Matters: Previously, rumors circulated that WeRide was pushing for independent financing for its Robovan business. Two consecutive head autonomous driving companies splitting unmanned logistics businesses to seek independent financing indicates the unmanned logistics track has returned to capital vision after a year of silence. Vehicle-grade low-cost solutions are becoming the realistic exit for autonomous driving commercialization.

4. AI Large Models & Computing Power

In DepthEpoch AI: Will Financing Choke AI Computing Power?

Epoch AI released a case study using Anthropic as a sample, exploring whether AI computing expansion is shifting from technical constraints to financing constraints. The article analyzes funding chain risks among hyperscale cloud contracts, private credit, and GPU depreciation cycles, arguing that current capex commitments for computing infrastructure far exceed operating cash flow coverage capabilities. A financing gap window may appear around 2027. Supporting signals appeared densely in the same week: Lambda, an AI cloud provider backed by Nvidia, completed $1 billion in private short-term debt financing to procure GB300 chips for its partnership with Microsoft. Previously, the company secured a $1 billion credit line and a $926 million loan. The computing business is shifting from equity financing to leveraging. Interest coverage capability becomes a new risk variable.
